Land is no longer a political tool in Fiji, it is a source of prosperity, as it should be.
These were the sentiments of the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at the launching of the Navakavu Pledging High Level Conference at the Novotel Conference Centre.
Bainimarama says the government is assisting more iTaukei people everyday to become more financially powerful by developing their land and making the most productive use of it.
The Prime Minister says that Fiji is improving and it is changing for the better because the government has planned carefully for success, and is making sure change works for Fiji and that prosperity reaches every Fijian, including the iTaukei.
He says that in this financial year the government has given another $10 million to fund iTaukei land development and that money is for infrastructure development on new iTaukei subdivided land.
Bainimarama says this means that iTaukei land owners can directly lease to potential lessees or tenants to make much bigger financial gains.
The Prime Minister has also congratulated the Navakavu Pledging High Level Conference and says that when they do put their ideas into action, government will always be there to support them.
Meanwhile, Navakavu Trustees Development Chairman, Seveci Naisilisili says the Navakavu Revitalization Strategy is a 5 year development plan of the Yavusa o Navakavu.
He says it is committed on 2 key principles – the principle of alignment and the principle partnerships.
Naisilisili says to this regard the plan is aligned both to the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals 2016-2030 and the Fiji Development Plan 2017-2021.
He adds the Navakavu Strategy demonstrates that Fiji’s National Development Plan goals reflect the connectedness between the vanua and community level.
