The Office of the Speaker of Parliament has confirmed that the government had requested for a change in the date for the 2018/2019 National budget address which is now set for the 28th of this month.
In a response to questions by Fijivillage, the Office of the Speaker of Parliament says the government had requested for the change and the Speaker of Parliament approved it.
The speaker also says that members of parliament are given a week to examine and prepare responses to the Budget and in that respect the budget debates will be held from Monday 9th July to Friday 13th July, 2018.
Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had said earlier that the 2018-2019 National Budget is set to be the widest reaching and most inclusive national budget in Fijian history.
Sayed-Khaiyum says many of the landmark programmes and allocations announced last year will be expanded, alongside a slate of new programmes and funding priorities that will have a direct and powerful impact on the lives of every Fijian.
