A 23-year-old man who was convicted of a count of rape has been sentenced to 12 years and 10 months imprisonment by Suva High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.
The accused had raped his nephew on the 1st of January this year in Nasinu after a party at the 15-year-old boy’s grandparents home.
Justice Rajasinghe said that this is a very serious offence and that the offence has disrupted the victim's school work.
He further stated that the accused had threatened to kill the victim if he told anyone of what had happened.
Justice Rajasinghe told the accused that he had denied the victim a normal childhood growth.
A non‑parole period of 10 years and 10 months has been set.
