300 people are counting their lucky stars after passenger shipping vessel, Lomaiviti Princess V started taking in water after leaving Savusavu for Suva last night.
Police received an emergency call from the vessel at about 8pm last night.
Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says Police then liaised with the Navy Operations Centre and the vessel was called back to Savusavu.
There were no casualties however some vehicles were damaged.
Naisoro says initial information received says that the door of the lower deck had opened and then started taking in water.
Meanwhile the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji’s Acting CEO Captain, Phillip Hill says the ship had met high swells after leaving the Savusavu passage which caused water to leak in through the bow door.
He says water had gotten into some of the vehicles.
Hill says the captain of the ship had made the decision to turn back to the Savusavu wharf and get the ship repaired. He says the leak has been fixed and the ship will leave dock in about an hour.
