Motions moved to appoint a Shadow Leader and a Deputy Leader for SODELPA were rejected in the party’s AGM over the weekend.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that the Naitasiri constituency had moved the motions.

The first motion was for the appointment of a Shadow Leader in case SODELPA Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka is unable to take them to elections because of his case.

This was opposed by party members who said that they have confidence in Rabuka and the party should not act like a court.

The second motion was for the appointment of a Deputy Leader to be below the age of 50 to accommodate people between the ages of 18 to 50 years to show the party’s succession planning and to represent the youths.

SODELPA Youth President, Jope Koroisavou spoke against this motion, saying that they have full confidence in the current set up and there was no need to appoint a Deputy Leader.

Speaking to the party members, Rabuka said SODELPA is ready to lead the next government.
