A ruptured bicep has ended Samu Kerevi's season and thrown a spanner in the works for both the Queensland Reds and the Wallabies.

Strike centre Kerevi carried the injury through the June test series but was sent for scans after Queensland's Super Rugby defeat to the Blues on Friday night, and was due to undergo surgery on yesterday evening.

The 24-year-old Fiji born Red’s vice captain will be sidelined for between 12 and 16 weeks, meaning he won't play again this year for club or country.

The Reds will host the Rebels at 9.45pm Friday.

Meanwhile, it seems Kieran Read won't be in the Crusaders' match‑day 23 after showing some signs of discomfort when he played for Counties-Manukau last week.

The defending champions have also lost Fiji born winger Jone Macilai and flanker Billy Harmon for the season with serious leg injuries.

The Crusaders will host the Highlanders at 7.35pm Friday.

On Saturday, the Hurricanes will face the Blues at 7.35pm while the Waratahs will host the Sunwolves at 9.45pm.

On Sunday, the Bulls will take on the Jaguares at 1.05am while the Stormers will take on the Sharks at 3.15am.
