The Ministry of Fisheries has confirmed that they have issued penalty notices to fishermen and middlemen who have been caught breaching the ban on Kawakawa and Donu in the past 3 weeks.

Director Fisheries Aisake Batibasaga says Donu and Kawakawa have been confiscated in the last three weeks.

He adds that now the Ministry of Fisheries is mapping out the next course of action which will be to fine people who continue to breach the ban in place.

Fish sellers that are still selling Kawakawa and Donu during the season ban can now have their fish confiscated and also be immediately fined with $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for corporations.

Batibasaga says that the Ministry fo Fisheries is pleading with the public to adhere to the ban and to let nature take its course and to allow for spawning of the two species of fish during this breeding season as the ban on the Donu and Kawakawa is only until the 1st of October.
