Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there is no nexus between the number of ministerial portfolios that he is holding and the National Minimum Wage of unskilled workers.
Sayed-Khaiyum made this comment at the National Budget Roadshow at Rishikul Sanatan College last night after a SODELPA Youth representative Mere Tuilau asked Sayed-Khaiyum why he is holding the ministerial portfolios while there are many graduates who are unemployed at the moment and the Wage Rate is $2.68.
Sayed-Khaiyum says he is not taking anyone else’s job and he says unemployed graduates who want to become ministers have to contest the elections and become members of parliament.
The Minister for Economy stresses that the $2.68 Minimum Wage Rate does not apply to skilled workers.
