Those families whose total earnings $30,000 or less qualify for the water and electricity subsidy by government.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while responding to a question posed by Caubati resident, Abdul Khan on whether government monitors those who have qualified for the water and electricity subsidy.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the income level is what is looked at, if a household earns $30,000 or less, then the family pays 50% for the tariff on electricity and water.

The Minister for Economy adds that because families are saving 50% of what they use to pay before the subsidies, maybe now spending their money by giving their families a treat.
