Muslims across the world are celebrating the festival of Eid-ul‑Adha today, which coincides with the final rites of the Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Eid-ul-Adha or Qurbaani is the festival where Muslims globally sacrifice an animal, mainly cows, goats or sheep and commemorate the sacrifice of Ibrahim.
The sacrificed animal is divided into thirds and distributed equally amongst the poor and needy, friends, families and neighbors.
Eid-ul‑Adha in Arabic means the "festival of sacrifice".
Meanwhile in the village of Mina, near the Muslim holy city of Mecca, millions of pilgrims perform the symbolic stoning of the devil today.
The five‑day‑long Hajj is a series of rituals meant to cleanse the soul of sins and instill a sense of equality and brotherhood among Muslims.
