A 37-year-old man has been jailed for 10 months imprisonment by the Nausori Magistrates Court for assaulting his wife and causing her to have multiple injuries.

Two weeks ago in Nausori, the man had an argument with his wife about money and personal affairs and punched her head and back several times.

It was heard in court that when she ran out of the house he went after her and dragged her back into the house and beat her with a mop handle.

The wife reported the matter to the police and medical examination showed numerous injuries.

The man pleaded guilty to the offense.

In his sentence, Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne said the man had previously assaulted his wife and was given a suspended sentence by the court in February this year.

Magistrate Somaratne said while the sentence was in operation the man again assaulted his wife even disregarding a domestic violence restraining order that was granted.

For the safety of the victim, a permanent domestic violence restraining order with standard no contact conditions has been granted by the Nausori Magistrates Court.
