De-sexing is the only way to help reduce and to solve the problem of stray animals in Fiji.
That’s according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Board Member Seema Deo who says as they roam the streets these animals will continue to breed causing an increase in the number of stray animals.
Deo adds that they only way to solve this is for owners not to neglect their pets and to take them to SPCA for de-sexing.
People have to pay the SPCA for their animals to be de-sexed.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals currently works with the Suva City Council in the entrapment of stray animals.
Currently, SPCA can cater for up to 50 dogs and 30 cats.
The animals are rehabilitated by SPCA and are then put up for adoption but those that are very aggressive will have to be put down.
