A 31 year old businessman of Nasinu who has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs after a raid conducted at a hotel room in Labasa on Monday, has been released on bail by the Labasa Magistrates Court.

A packet of white substance was found in the man’s possession which was later confirmed to be 6.6 grams of methamphetamine.

Two others who were found with the accused were questioned and released.

The accused, Imran Khan appeared before Magistrate Cama Tuberi.

He has been bailed for the sum of $1000 with 2 sureties. Khan has been ordered not to re‑offend whilst on bail, to surrender all travelling documents, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses, a stop departure was placed and to report to the Nakasi Police Station every Saturday between 6am to 6pm.

The case will be called again on the 29th of October.

Meanwhile concerns continue to be raised about methamphetamine being found in different parts of the country.

Calls have already been made by the Police Commissioner, Sitiveni Qiliho for everyone to assist Police in the fight against this deadly drug.

It was earlier revealed by the Divisional Police Commander Eastern, Kasiano Vusonilawe that the Nakasi‑Nausori corridor has been identified as the main market of methamphetamine in Fiji.

Vusonilawe says at this stage cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine are the three main hard drugs found in the Eastern Division.

He says they have also found apparatus and raw materials used to make methamphetamine.
