Land Transport Authority has issued a stern warning to all bus drivers who are breaching the PSV licence conditions and traffic regulations.
This comes after Fijivillage received complaints in regards to drivers that are allowing bus checkers to control buses from the driver’s seats once the bus is parked or stationed at Bus Stands around the country.
LTA Chairman Vijay Maharaj says that this is a serious matter and has urged members of the public to help report the matter.
Maharaj says that drivers are responsible and they should be in control.
Maharaj also highlighted the accident that happened a few years ago at the Suva Bus Stand whereby a bus checker drove a bus which later caused the death of a woman who was crushed between two buses.
Maharaj says that accidents as such can be avoided and LTA is pleading with members of the public to lodge a report if they witness an event where a checker or anyone else apart from the bus driver is driving a bus.
LTA say that they cannot be everywhere however, they are pleading to members of the public to keep a lookout and lodge reports to the free text platform 582.
