445 complaints regarding tenancy issues has been received by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission out of which 31 are currently with the courts.
This was revealed by the Commission's CEO Joel Abraham in an interview with LegendFM News at the 2018 Real Estate Conference for Agents and Salespersons which is currently underway at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbor.
Abraham says that these reports were received in the last financial year.
He says that these are issues of non-issuance of receipts and illegal rent increase.
Abraham also says that there have been issues of misrepresentation received and these are now under investigation.
While speaking on issues of bogus agents, Abraham says that it is the responsibility of consumers to think smart before making a choice and they need to get clarification of any agents they deal with.
He says that the conference also focuses on providing a better insight of legal requirements as well as the compliance surrounding consumer protection issues.
