A cane fire in Maururu in Ba today has caused partial damage to two power poles along Energy Fiji Limited’s 33,000 volt transmission line that transmits power to Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki.

Replacement will take place next Sunday.

CEO Hasmukh Patel says there have already been three cases where cane fires have burnt EFL’s wooden power poles leading to thousands of dollars in replacement costs and power supply disruptions.

He says the total cost changing a power pole would be around $20,000
