The Permanent Secretary of Defence and National Security Osea Cawaru has stressed the need to eradicate the culture of resorting to violence to extract confessions from suspects.

He highlighted this at the graduation of 13 Fijian Police Officers from separate departments on Regional Training of the Trainers in Video Recording Interviews and Investigative Interviewing.

Cawaru says the training is a great achievement and will enable officers to deliver video recorded interviews and this should not be taken lightly.

He also highlighted that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama had labeled the abuse of any kind being legally and morally unaccepted especially by members of the discipline force.

Cawaru adds that one case of police brutality has an effect on our nation especially since Fiji has adopted a zero tolerance for any acts of torture or other human right abuse.

Officers from Tonga, Samoa ,Vanuatu and Nauru were also part of the workshop.
