A 28-year-old man who had pleaded guilty to one count of rape, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of criminal intimidation has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.

The man had raped a 24-year-old woman.

According to the prosecution, the man and the complainant were in a relationship for 1 year 5 months.

As a result of that relationship, according to the accused, the complainant became pregnant.

According to the man, the woman allegedly went through an abortion that ended her pregnancy.

This caused friction between the two.

The man was also accusing the woman of having an affair with her ex‑boyfriend behind his back.

The incident happened between the 23rd and 24th May this year in Nasinu.

He has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for rape and 18 months each for one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of criminal intimidation.

High Court Judge Justice, Salesi Temo has ruled that the sentences be carried out concurrently.

The non-parole period is set for 7 years.
