Sex offences in the country continues to be a major concern as 30 people were charged with a total of 62 counts of separate sex offences in August.

In the latest statistics, we have fathers raping their daughters, a son raping his mother, a grandson raping his grandmother, a Police Officer raping his 17-year-old niece, a school bus driver raping a young girl and two men raping a girl at a church youth camp. 

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says there were 4 juveniles who were charged with rape and sexual assault.

A 12‑year‑old boy was charged with the rape of a 6‑year‑old girl, a 15‑year‑old boy was charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assaults of a 16‑year‑old girl and two 17‑year‑olds were charged with another accused after the rape of their 15‑year‑old cousin.

There were 14 incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

In one incident a 45‑year‑old man was charged with allegedly raping his 63‑year‑old mother.

In another incident a 66‑year‑old was charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault of his 53‑year‑old sister‑in‑law.

There was one incident where a 29‑year‑old man was charged for allegedly raping his 46‑year‑old grandmother.

The DPP’s Office says there were two separate incidents where a 58‑year‑old grandfather was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 12‑year‑old granddaughter and a 34‑year‑old granduncle was charged with the rape of his 14‑year‑old grandniece.

There were three separate incidents where fathers were charged with rape and sexual assault of their daughters. In one incident a 42‑year‑old man was charged with sexual assault of his 6‑year‑old daughter, in another incident a 48‑year‑old man was charged with rape and sexual assault of his 10‑year‑old daughter and in the third incident a 48‑year‑old man was charged with the rape of his 9‑year‑old stepdaughter.

A 45‑year‑old man was charged with rape and sexual assault of his 9‑year‑old niece while another 55‑year‑old man was charged with rape and sexual assault of his 16 and 17‑year‑old nieces.

There were two incidents where victims were allegedly raped by their de facto partners. In one of these incidents, a 28‑year‑old man was charged with the rape of his 24‑year‑old defacto partner. The accused was also charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and criminal intimidation.

A 40‑year‑old man was charged with rape, sexual assault and abduction with intent to have carnal knowledge of a 12‑year‑old girl. The accused who is a family friend was also charged with wrongful confinement.

In a separate incident a 31‑year‑old man was charged with the sexual assault of a 4‑year‑old girl.

In another incident a 60‑year‑old man was charged with rape and indecently annoying a 14‑year‑old girl.

There was one incident where a 56‑year‑old man was charged with the rape of a 6‑year‑old girl. The accused was the victim’s school bus driver.

There was one incident where two men aged 20 and 21-years-old were charged with the rape of a 17‑year‑old girl during a church group camp.

Two cases were withdrawn. One case was withdrawn as Police were unable to locate the victim while another case was withdrawn after the complainant admitted to making a false statement.
