128 breast cancer surgeries have been conducted at CWM Hospital so far this year.

This was highlighted by FNU’s Associate Professor Surgery, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete when FNU partnered with the Ministry of Health and Fiji Cancer Society to take a lead role in creating greater cancer awareness at the national level with the launch of the Pinktober Campaign.

Dr Waqainabete says that at least one or two breast cancer surgeries are conducted at the CWM hospital in Suva every week.

He says that the incidents of breast cancer are alarmingly increasing.

Waqainabete says it is important that patients present themselves early at hospitals so they can receive treatment in a timely manner.

He says one of the highly rated messages in fighting breast cancer is early detection and people should know that in Fiji, they are able to treat the early forms of breast cancer which leads to higher long‑term survival rate.

Education lectures and other awareness activities are being organised at FNU campuses to create greater awareness regarding the Pinktober campaign.
