The former Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates Court charged with a count of obtaining financial advantage and two counts of general dishonesty, causing a loss.
Sanjay Prakash is alleged to have obtained a financial advantage of AUD$16,900 between 1st December 2015 and 31st January 2016.
It is alleged that Prakash had instructed one Brian Robotham of Scan Consulting Limited to transfer this amount from the AUD$44,353 paid to Scan Consulting Limited by the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji for the purchase of items.
It is also alleged that Prakash caused the payment of $13,500 to be made by the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji to Lovely Auto Repairs for the purchase of storage containers and as a result, dishonestly caused a loss of $3,500 to the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji.
Prakash has been released on bail and the case has been adjourned to the 30th of this month.
