A former employee of the Fiji Bureau of Statistics appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon facing corruption related charges.

FICAC has charged 37-year-old Kelera Nokelevu with a count each of obtaining financial advantage and using forged documents.

The court was told that Nokelevu allegedly falsified receipts for the hire of vehicles and obtained $1,588 from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

It is also alleged that she used documents which she knew were forged for the hire of vehicles. The alleged incidents occurred between 1st November to 31st December, 2015.

The court was also told that Nokelevu appeared before the Public Service Disciplinary Tribunal last year.

Magistrate Waleen George has recused herself from the case as she informed the court that she is a member of the Public Service Disciplinary Tribunal.

She has transferred the matter to Chief Magistrates Court which will be called on the 25th of this month.

Nokelevu has been released on bail.
