A representative of SODELPA appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon facing a charge under the Political Parties Act of 2013.
Jale Baba has been charged by FICAC with a count of making a false statement.
It is alleged that Baba published falsified Voter Lists and other false information related to that list on social networking site Facebook between August and October this year.
FICAC counsel Francis Puleiwai made mention of Section 18(A) of the Electoral Act of 2014 which requires the court to act immediately on electoral offence cases but left it within the court’s discretion.
Defence counsels Lynda Tabuya and Filimoni Vosarogo told the court that time was needed to go through the disclosures and that there was no hurry for this case since Baba is not standing in the elections.
He has been released on bail.
The matter has been adjourned to the 31st of this month for plea.
