Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s Coach Gareth Baber says Fiji’s draw in Pool B for round one of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series will motivate the team’s next phase of preparations leading in up to the Dubai 7's tournament.
Baber says the pool draw provides a mix of styles for them to combat and this will keep them on their toes.
Fiji have been drawn alongside Kenya, Scotland and France for the season opener and Baber is already quite clear on what his team will be up against when they step onto the pitch next month.
Baber says they are aware of the kind of physicality that the Kenyans will bring, Scotland will want to create pressure through moving the ball from edge to edge and France will look to individual game breakers to give them the advantage.
He says they want to start the season strongly, so their focus will be on implementing their game style and putting together consistency in their performance from the start.
Baber’s squad has been put through an intense 8 week training block including a number of local tournaments in Kadavu and around the country as build up to the Oceania 7’s and HSBC World Sevens Series.
The 2018 Oceania 7s tournament will kick off at the ANZ Stadium in Suva next weekend and Fiji is pooled with Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
Fiji will take on Solomon Islands at 4.57pm next Friday and they will then take on PNG at 8.06pm next Friday.
Meanwhile, the 2018 Dubai Sevens will be played from 29 November to 1st December this year.
