The driver of the vehicle which allegedly caused the death of two men in Lautoka early Thursday morning has been charged.

It is alleged that the vehicle veered off road and hit a tree at the junction of Natabua and the Queens Road.

The man has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving Occasioning grievous bodily harm and will be produced at the Lautoka Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Meanwhile the driver alleged to have caused the death of a 30 year old man in Walu Bay was interviewed and released as investigations continue.

In a statement the Fiji Police Force has reiterated that as we are approaching the festive season, traffic will be a major focus of Police operations.

Police say the road death toll currently stands at 64 compared to 61 for the same period last year and speeding and drunk driving continues to be a major concern.

Police have also confirmed that to date more than 51,000 speeding infringement notices have been issued while more than 1,000 drivers have been arrested for drunk driving.
