“During my first few months in New Zealand, after every training I would plead to my mother back in Fiji to let me come back home, but my father would gently tell me that I could change our family's lives.”
These are the words of Fijian Soccer star Roy Krishna who has played 100 games for the Wellington Phoenix while describing his beginnings with the club.
Krishna says he used to go straight to his room from training just so he could call home however his credit would run out very quickly even before he could finish talking to his family back in Fiji.
Last night, Krishna played his 100th game for Wellington Phoenix, becoming the side's eleventh A‑League centurion.
Krishna also sits on the cusp of the club's all‑time goalscoring record, with his next goal taking him past Phoenix legend Paul Ifill to the top of the list with 34.
Krishna signed for the Phoenix in the year 2014 and has since then been with the club completing his 100th game.
