Former Fiji 7's Coach Wayne Pivac is feeling the heat from critics before starting as Wales coach.

Pivac will replace fellow Kiwi Warren Gatland after next year's World Cup but has come under criticism from former Lions coach Clive Woodward.

Scarlets, the club side Pivac currently coaches in Wales, have suffered a form slump this seasons and Woodward suggested it may have been because Pivac was appointed to the national team job too early.

However, Pivac's assistant and club and international level, Stephen Jones, refutes that.

Pivac was named as Gatland's replacement in July and Woodward wondered if the former Northland, Auckland and North Harbour coach had one foot out the door of his club job following the appointment.

Pivac led Scarlets to the Pro12 title two seasons ago and the club also reached the European Champions Cup semifinal. They are currently second in the Pro 14 B conference with six wins from 10 games.
