The Ministry of Environment has highlighted some major works that they will be undertaking in 2019 which includes Coastal Protection, Drainage Works, Riverbank Protection and River Dredging and de-silting work.
Minister for Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy says that the Coastal Protection Program includes construction of stone/boulder masonry seawall at village frontage.
Reddy says that this will be done in 25 villages.
In the central division these works will be carried out at the Bau island seawall rehabilitation, Nananu Village seawall, Qelekuro village seawall, Naloto village seawall, Vatani village seawall, Dromuna village seawall, Anitioki village seawall, Nasilai village seawall, Naisausau village seawall, Matamaivere village seawall, Dravuni village seawall, Soliyaga village seawall, Rukua village seawall and Nawaisomo village seawall.
He says in the North, the Coastal Protection Program includes works at the Yaroi village seawall, Sasa village seawall, Nakawaga village seawall and Lamiti village seawall.
Dr Reddy says that in the Eastern Divison, works will be done in the Qarani village seawall, Tavuki District School village seawall and Namuana village seawall.
He says the in the Western Division works will commence at the Rukurukulevu village seawall, Namoli village seawall, Navolau village seawall and Namatakula village seawall.
Dr Reddy says that these works are intended to be completed by end of 2019.
