The Ministry of Environment and Waterways will now begin scoping works to undertake infield drainage works for the sugarcane farms and non-sugarcane areas.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy who says that they have sought submissions from the FSC sector offices and extension division of agriculture to provide drainage in sugarcane areas and non-sugarcane areas respectively.

Dr Reddy says that an expression of interest for request of drainage works has been called in August so that farmers can apply for services under this programme.

He says that while farmers in each division have been identified through the submission received, the Ministry will now start scoping and carry out drainage works.

Reddy says that they intend to complete the scoping works by end of January and works to begin in February.

The Minister says that the work is intended to be completed by April 2019.
