A stepfather has been sentenced to 16 years, 7 months and 10 days imprisonment for raping his stepdaughter in 2014.
The incident happened in Nadi.
The court was told that as a result of what the man did, the girl became pregnant.
While sentencing the man, Lautoka High Court Judge, Justice Sunil Sharma said the man was a disgrace to society.
Justice Sharma says the victim was unsuspecting and vulnerable and the man cannot be forgiven for what he had done to the victim.
He says he has not only scarred the victim’s life forever but have brought shame to all the fathers and broken the sanctity of the relationship.
A non-parole period of 15 years has been set.
