The Minister for Forestry Osea Naiqamu has reassured the people of Tailevu that their lands will not be leased out or taken away from them to cater for the Ministry’s initiative of planting 4 Million Trees in 4 years.

Naiqamu continues to reiterate this as villagers across Tailevu raised questions with the Minister on whether the initiative will cause them to lose their land.

Naiqamu says that the 4 Million Trees initiative includes plans to plant all types of trees from timber trees to fruit trees and ornamental trees.

Naiqamu says that the Ministry of Forestry will breed the plants and seedlings before it is given out to villagers across the country who will assist their officials in the planting of the trees.

He has also highlighted that they want the progress of the initiative to help utilize idle land around the country adding that this it is also part of government's commitment to grow the Fijian economy through the forestry sector.
