Four students of a vocational school who gang-raped a 16 year old girl on the 10th of April 2014 have been handed prison sentences ranging from 2 years to 7 years.

Lautoka High Court Judge, Justice Aruna Aluthge has sentenced Ame Tuiviti and Peni Gusivalu to 2 years imprisonment while Vanavasa Dave and Kelemete Yamoyamo were sentenced to 7 years imprisonment.

While giving his judgement, Justice Aluthge said that the four people have not denied sexual intercourse with the complainant and the only dispute is in relation to consent.

Justice Alutghe says it is highly implausible that a 16‑year‑old girl had agreed to have sexual intercourse with the four, one after the other, at the school premises.

He says the complainant frankly admitted that she had a short relationship with the 1st accused where she was forced to have sexual intercourse.
