The Fiji National University Vice Chancellor Nigel Healey says that the University is making major investments in supporting its staff to upgrade their qualifications.

He says that there are 30 staff that are currently studying in leading universities all around the world under international scholarships variously for masters degrees but mostly for PhD’s.

Healey says that they have quite a number of staff who are studying for PhD’s while in service here in Fiji either with FNU or with the University of the South Pacific.

He adds that they have probably over a hundred staff that are currently doing teaching qualifications.

The Vice Chancellor says that the University is trying to provide extensive support to the staff to help them upgrade with both academics and teaching qualifications.

He says that the University provides an additional allowance of $1,500 for each month in addition to living costs and tuition fees for students that study abroad.
