Minister for Agriculture and Waterways Dr. Mahendra Reddy today broke ground for the new FNU Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Koronivia.
Reddy says a Veterinary Teaching Hospital plays an important role in providing hands on practical experience to veterinarians of tomorrow on how to handle animals and treat them.
Reddy says this program is not like a program in the Business College where they need a classroom, IT lab and library to run the program.
Reddy says that it is not an easy task to establish a teaching hospital as it needs the right equipment and specialists and experts in fields from anesthesia to specialized medicines.
He says this Veterinary School will provide, routine health care, rehabilitation, 24‑hour emergency service and intensive care, or for on‑farm animal care will be provided through an ambulatory service.
Reddy says this Veterinary hospital will also be of great help to upgrade studies and provide regular up-skilling of their para vets which will be a cost effective way of providing veterinary service to our farmers in the Agriculture Ministry which is spread across the country.
He adds that at the moment, they are actively pursuing the eradication of TB and Brucellosis amongst our beef and dairy cattle.
Reddy has also urged development partners to support the Hospital in picking up core budget funding and also for PICs to support the Hospital by sending their students here rather than outside Universities as practical exposure.
