The Minister for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa has revealed that the Ba Women’s Forum is currently having discussions with the three new garment factories which have opened in Ba to access employment opportunities for their sewing graduates.
Vuniwaqa highlighted this while officiating at the Ba Women's Forum Trainees Graduation and she also reiterated that the economic empowerment of women is one sure way to alleviate poverty.
Vuniwaqa says that the Ba Women’s Forum also actively markets the crafts and products of its members and graduates in mainstream markets and a good example is the arrangements with RB Patel to promote the sale of reusable shopping bags made by the women of this very forum.
Vuniwaqa adds that NGO’s are a backbone to support marginalized people and this is why the Ministry is working in partnership with many NGO’s, especially those directly working with children, persons living with disabilities, older persons and women.
The Minister also stressed the need to ensure that women’s economic participation and development is not the exception, but becomes the norm.
