A 38-year-old father has been sentenced to 16 years and 6 months imprisonment for one count of rape of his 5-year-old daughter by the Labasa High Court.
While sentencing the man, Labasa High Court Judge, Justice Paul Madigan says the potential psychiatric damage to the little girl is immeasurable and it is almost impossible to understand why a father would harm his young daughter in such a way just for a moment of lust.
The incident happened in October last year.
A non-parole period of 14 years has been set.
