Police say from the information gathered by their Traffic Officers indicate that only one person was inside the vehicle that went into the river in Naduruloulou near Baulevu, Nausori on Wednesday.
This is contrary to eyewitness reports of there being four people when the incident occurred.
Police had earlier said that the driver could be an 18‑year‑old man.
Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says that a decision on whether the search effort will continue this morning will be made after careful assessment of safety risks as the river current is still strong and visibility low.
However, Naisoro is reiterating again that this is still to be confirmed as there is yet to be a positive sighting of any vehicle.
Police say the driver of the vehicle whilst proceeding towards Nausori tried to overtake another car when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road, and went into the river at about 8.20 Wednesday morning.
