29 people who are charged with unlawful assembly have been granted bail by Lautoka Magistrate Sekonaia Vodokisolomoni.

The group allegedly unlawfully gathered on a piece of land in Lautoka on Wednesday morning when the former Water Authority of Fiji workers were gathering at different parts of the country.

It is alleged that these people refused to disperse when directed to by Police.

The 29 are Manueli Yawayawa, Emosi Ravato Naiceru, Tevita Rauga, Vonipate Tauvoli, Atonio Rokoura Nabakeke, Litia Ratu, Lemeki Uluikadavu Lesumailiapani Vatuloka, Marika Banuve, Aisea Baleilekutu, Etuate Naba, Savenaca Waqavou, Aisake King, Lare Moceyawa, Antonia Niumatawalu, Wame Savou, Tukeni Sucuvou, Ilisoni Taginadavui, Atunaisa Baleiwai Vuidreketi, Epeli Ratabacaca, Samuela Tukana, Mosese Duilomaloma Saumaki, Viliame Momo, Samisoni Tagane, Epeli Kurukitoga Tikomaisinaimalo, Maika Tikomailepanoni Tavutu, Meli Tacuvameke, Sitiveni Kunataci, Sekove Naivakatoka and Tuliasi Yalayatora Tamanivalu.

The prosecution had objected to bail saying that this is a matter of national interest however, Magistrate Vodokisolomoni granted them bail on strict bail conditions.

The 29 people are to report to the Lautoka Police Station every Saturday starting from today.

They are not to re-offend while on bail and are not to interfere with the witnesses.

A curfew has also been imposed on the accused persons from 7pm to 6am.

The matter has been adjourned to the 24th of this month.
