People living along Wainibuku Creek in Nakasi can now breath a sigh of relief as works to clean and de‑silt the creek has been completed.
This was confirmed by Ministry of Waterways Director Operations Mahendra Kumar who says the whole operation cost $18,000.
Kumar says the area has become less flood prone now as all blockages along the creek have been cleared and all side drains feeding into the creek have been cleaned.
These works were carried out as a result of ankle deep water in the Shop N Save Supermarket during a heavy downpour earlier this year.
The Supermarket is located in Rups Complex Nakasi which is situated next to the Wainibuku Creek.
