The Lautoka High Court has sentenced a head chef of a resort to 11 years and 11 months imprisonment for raping a trainee chef who worked under his supervision.
He was charged with one count of rape.
The incident happened in August, 2016 in Rakiraki.
While sentencing the man, Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe says the man took the complainant to a party and forced her to drink beer mixed with whiskey.
Justice Rajasinghe says once she got drunk and lost her consciousness, the man took her to his quarters and raped her.
He says the victim had joined the resort one week prior to the incident and after the incident, she left her job and returned to her home in Suva.
Justice Rajasinghe says the man shattered and destroyed her future where she could have become a chef in the hotel industry.
A non-parole period of 9 years and 11 months has been set.
