Thirty police officers have graduated from training on the management of substances used to make drugs through classroom teaching.

They were part of the Narcotics Control Investigation Course delivered by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security at the Fiji Police Force Academy in Nasova which also specifically focused on drug control strategy, investigation of anti‑drug cases and case analysis.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho told the officers they have the opportunity to change things now.

He says Fiji is no longer some isolated nation that is immune to drug threats.

Qiliho says they have a government that is supporting their fight against drugs.

He says as the drug dealers and cartels get richer, society gets poorer, productive people become unproductive and they succumb to the consequences of drugs.

Qiliho adds drug cartels and those involved have been described as brazen, shameless and bold, because they are willing to take any risk ‑ even if it means hurting innocent people – just so they can fill their pockets.
