French President, Emmanuel Macron has said leaders of the world's major industrialised nations are close to an agreement on how to help fight the fires tearing through the Amazon in Brazil.

While speaking at the G7 summit in Biarritz, Macron says there is a real convergence to say 'Let's all agree to help those countries hit by these fires.'

He said the G7 countries comprising of the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Britain and Canada, were finalising a possible deal on "technical and financial help".

He said the plans also included trying to repair the devastation.

Macron pushed the Amazon fires to the top of the summit agenda after declaring them a global emergency.
