High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe told the lawyer of the two Cyprus Nationals who are facing charges in regards to money laundering that his jurisdiction is only up to the adjournment and not where the remandees are supposed to be kept.

Justice Rajasinghe highlighted this after Loizos Petridis and Cleanthis Petridis’ lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo told the court that it is wrong to keep a remandee in a conviction facility which was the Naboro Corrections Centre.

Vosarogo told the court that he has been finding it difficult to communicate with one of the brothers as he has been transported to Naboro.

The trial of the Cyprus Nationals will be held in September.

The case will be called this Friday for re-trial conference matters.

It is alleged that in December 2017, they were allegedly engaged directly or indirectly in obtaining $95,590 which were proceeds of crime – while knowing it was derived from some form of unlawful activity.

It is also alleged that in December 2017 they procured $41,540 from the BSP Bank with the intention to permanently deprive the bank of the amount.

It is also alleged they possessed $203,009 suspected of being proceeds of crime.
