Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Mahendra Reddy confirms they are taking neccessary steps to completely ban the sale and use of paraquat in the country.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Dr. Reddy says a policy may be ready in a month’s time.
Dr. Reddy says they will be looking at a substitute weedkiller that farmers can use as there are countries which have also banned weedkiller like paraquat.
The Ministry is also looking at the use of some insecticides.
He says they will give farmers time before completely banning paraquat.
