The Attorney General and the Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says before the funds for next year’s budget is allocated, they need to hear from Municipal Councils as to what their plans are and how much they require to meet the necessities.

Speaking at the reception for Special Administrators in Holiday Inn, Sayed-Khaiyum told the Special Administrators that they need to sharpen up their thinking and be creative as to what their plans are going forward.

He however says that like all governments, they also have limited resources and the administrators have to be mindful of how to better utilize those funds.

Sayed-Khaiyum also says they need to generate revenue from wherever they can.

He says if we look at all the major rivers in Fiji, they are hardly generating any revenue for anybody except for the Sigatoka River where there is some sort of development along the river banks.
Sayed-Khaiyum says if we go to most major cities in the world, the rivers are major source of revenue with commercial activities such as boat trips and jet skis.

He has urged the Special Administrators to liaise with their permanent secretaries to continue to give ideas and not be solely dependent on the government.
