The Fiji Labour Party is urging all Fijians to take this time to dwell on the beautiful teachings that are embodied in their holy scriptures so that they may become a better member of a family and society and a person that stands up for something that is right and just.

It says Diwali is not just a time for fun and festivities, it is a time where Hindus devote to special prayers for their prosperity and well-being, a time to clean up, refresh and to renew their lives and surroundings.

The Fiji Labour Party says adopting the virtues of sacrifice, honesty and integrity in one’s personal life that Lord Rama and his brothers had shown will enable a person to become a better person in life.

It says thousands of years on, these precepts and values continue to hold relevance for the people, more so as modern living puts pressures on many of the age-old customs and traditions.

The party adds when diyas brighten up people's homes tonight it should also brighten up their hearts and lives with renewed hope and aspirations.
