Health Minister, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says the Ministry of Health programs are not only limited to domestic patient care but also extends to providing health care support for patients who need off-shore treatment, but not all those who need overseas treatment can be funded by government.
Waqainabete highlighted this while responding to the President’s speech inparliament.
He says in the current financial year, the Ministry has been allocated $2m for Overseas Medical Evacuation and it has already committed more than $1.5m to assisting Fijians obtain life changing surgery and treatment.
The Minister says the Ministry has very strict criteria for the approval of medical treatment overseas.
Dr Waqainabete has also stressed in parliament today that all the Ministers are working hard and he cannot see why the Opposition is asking them to resign.
He says the Opposition Leader and members of opposition should resign themselves.
Dr Waqainabete says the President rightly said that they are here as representatives of all Fijians and to deliver solutions to the nation’s greatest challenges.
He says they are not there to guard their political fortunes nor make a theatre out of political discourse but to serve as guardians of every Fijian’s wellbeing.
