Discipline still a major issue for the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s Team as they went down 24-7 to New Zealand in the second cup semifinal of the Cape Town 7s.
New Zealand applied pressure in the first half scoring two tries from Kurt Baker and Regan Ware.
A penalty try was also awarded to New Zealand for a foul play by captain, Paula Dranisinukula.
Dranisinukula and Meli Derenalagi was shown yellow cards leaving Fiji to play with five men for two to three minutes of the first half.
Fiji’s only try came from Vilimoni Botitu, 20 seconds after the first half siren went.
Fiji trailed New Zealand 7-19 at half-time.
New Zealand continued to apply pressure in the second half, making Fiji commit a lot of errors and penalties.
Andrew Knewstubb scored another try for New Zealand making it difficult for Fiji to make a comeback.
Fiji will now face France in the Bronze playoffs at 4.59 this morning while New Zealand will take on South Africa in the cup final at 5.56.
Meanwhile, South Africa defeated France 21-14 in the first cup semifinal.
In the women’s cup final, New Zealand will face Australia at 5.26 this morning.
Australia defeated France 24-19 in the first cup semifinal while New Zealand thumped Canada 15-5 in the second cup semifinal.
