Permanent Secretary for Education, Alison Burchell is yet to comment on why the roles of Head Teachers and Principals in Fiji have been revised to include teaching in addition to their other duties and how this will affect their performance.

The Ministry of Education has advised all  Heads of Schools in Fiji that from the beginning of the upcoming school year they will be sharing teaching loads as well.

General Secretary of the Fiji Teachers Union, Agni Deo Singh says they are unaware of the roles being revised.

The Fijian Teachers Association is yet to comment.

The Ministry says the sharing of teaching loads will be in accordance with the Head Teachers and Principals revised role descriptions which have been approved by the Permanent Secretary for Education Alison Burchell and endorsed by the Minister for Education Rosy Akbar.

The Head Teacher or Principal of a small primary or secondary school is required to share half of a full teaching load, the Head of School of a medium-sized primary or secondary school is required to share a quarter of a full teaching load while the Head Teacher or Principal of a large primary or secondary school will be sharing 20 percent of a full teaching load.
