Only one lane coming from the Tappoo City end is open for motorists and the FRA has turned this into two lanes.

The Fiji Roads Authority says the emergency closure is due to structural failures identified on the section of the bridge that supports the two lanes on the upstream end.

It says once the investigations are complete, they will scope for works.

Thompson Bridge is in the heart of Suva City some concerns have been raised that partial closure of the bridge may cause traffic congestion in the Capital and when questioned, the FRA say it does not have any plans for buses to use other routes.

The cost surrounding the exercise has not been revealed.
